Tips for Taking Children to Music Festivals

Taking children to a music festival might seem like a bit of a daunting proposition, even for those who have done it before.  There are a lot of things to take into consideration before you do a festival with kids, but if you're well-prepared, a great music festival can be as much fun for the whole family as a theme park or other more traditional family vacation spot.
  • Make Sure the Kids can Roll With It. You know their personalities, will they whine and generally ruin a good time or can they chill out and enjoy something new?
  • Come Well-Stocked. Bring SPF60, a hat, diaper, sunglasses, ear protection, juice boxes, kid snacks, a quiet toy or two.
  • Set up a Cozy Base Camp. Shade is a good idea and remember shade moves as the day goes on.
  • Get a Schedule of Kids' Activities and remember to go to the kids area early.
  • Enjoy Some Music! Dance with the kids.
  • Eat, Drink, and be Merry. Hungry, dehydrated and sunburnt are not what kids want.
  • Tell Your Kids What to do if They Get Lost. Don't assume your kid knows you will be at the jambalaya booth, make a plan, write it in permanent ink and put it in his or her pocket. Include your phone number.
