FEST 2001 - DAY SIX, SUNDAY 4/29

The one & only Jujuvoo
My notes start getting sketchy by this point - Too busy having fun to write anything down. I do remember that I slept in until 10:30 or so. Pete was going to ride to fest with his "stoop party" friends, so I rode in with Kinderkitti. Unfortunately, her buddy Rhonda was sick in bed with stomach ailments, so she was going to have to miss the fest. On the ride down Rampart, Kinderkitti spotted the Jersey Krewe waiting for the bus, so she hung a U-turn and they all piled into the back seat for the ride to fest. Since we were late getting to the fairgrounds, we wound up in one of the expensive lots. It was $20, but just 2 blocks from the gate, and with a car full of people, it seemed totally worth it.

We headed for Accura Stage and the Dupree's tent to see Irma Thomas. On the way into the crowd, we spotted a Pet De Kat Krewe flag set up near the track. We stopped in and said hello - it was some South Florida kats that we'd never met before. Then we dove in and wove our way to the Dupree's. Irma Thomas was magical! The music was so perfect for a Sunday afternoon at the fest. The whole crowd was dancing in the sunshine. We partied with the Duprees and took lots of pictures.

Afterwards, we split up to get some food & drinks before heading to the HOB stage for the big wedding. I got to HOB early and enjoyed the end of the set by Indigenous. Then I spotted a HUGE bunch of yellow PDKK balloons off to the side of the stage, and went over to watch Maggalicious and Eric get married. I took TONS of pix, so I've set up a separate web page for the wedding.

After the wedding was over, lots of kats stayed for The Iguanas who were wonderful as usual. Then I grabbed some food and headed back to the Accura Stage for Van Morrison. I'd never seen him live and was grateful for the Dupree's once again. They were so generous to share their tarp and the great view. Van's set was a little laid-back, but lovely anyway. I especially enjoyed when he played "Precious Time is Slipping Away" and followed it up with an incredibly soulful version of "Georgia", which brought tears to my eyes. He also played a killer version of "St. James Infirmary".
