FEST 2001 - DAY SIX, SUNDAY NIGHT 4/29

After Van Morrison was over, I walked to Liuzza's to meet up with Brewfiend Pete and Juls/NJ to share a cab over to Phyllis & Pete's house. They were having a few folks over for a small wedding reception for Maggie & Eric. I hung out at Liuzza's for a long while, but eventually both Pete and Juls bailed on me and decided not to go. As I was heading for a cab, I ran into Pony and he offered me a ride to the party. Poor Pony, it is almost impossible for him to break away from Liuzza's. But we finally departed and headed to the party. Pete and Phyllis have a great house and they had boiled up a bunch of crawfish for the guests. As their neighbor kept saying - "These crawfish are KILLER". And they were - fresh and hot and spicey. I hung at the party for an hour or two, visiting, giving gifts, taking photos, etc.

Then Eric's friends Jorge & Stacey gave me a lift back to the LaSalle. I was starting to feel a bit sick, so I just stayed in and packed up my stuff, since I had an early start to the airport on Monday morning. It was a rough night, some sort of respiratory bug had gotten to me and I was up all night. Pete got home early too, and we were asleep by midnight.

The next morning I wandered in to the quarter for a final stroll and grabbed some zuchini bread and coffee at the Royal Coffee Internet Cafe. I took a walk down to Decatur to pick up a muffalatta at Central Grocery to take back to Joe. Then it was back to the hotel to check out and catch a cab to the airport. I sat with Beach Bob in the lobby while I was waiting for the cab, and he told me his harrowing tale of being robbed just a few blocks from the Lasalle the night before. I was so glad that he was unhurt, but it was such a shame for something like that to mar his festival fun. After final goodbyes, I headed to the airport and home.
