JAZZ FEST 1999
TUESDAY

Tuesday morning Joe and I headed out around 10 am to run some errands for the Crawfish Boil that afternoon. We went by to get the keg, ice and tub, then to the grocery store for cooking and eating supplies. It took longer than we thought, and it was 4 hours later that we finally made it to the park at 2:30 to help get things set up and collect people's money.

It was another lovely afternoon in Audobon Park - a gorgeous setting for a party.

I really love this traditional boil the krewe throws - it's the most relaxing and low-key event of the whole week. Plenty of time to sit around and talk and meet the kats from all over the country. Doug, our cook extraordinaire, was a real professional. Batches of crawfish were dumped on the table with amazing regularity - there was always hot and spicy crawfish on hand to eat. Alan the Alien stopped by with an enormous tray of fried chicken and rolls, and lots of other kats brought stuff to nosh on as well.

Unfortunately, Joe wasn't feeling too well, and around 5:30, after 6 hours of running around, I finally took his poor ass back to the hotel for a shower and a cool rest. We took it easy that night - just walked around the quarter for awhile, looking at everybody getting wild and crazy on Bourbon Street, exploring the quieter, residential section, grabbed some sliced pizza for dinner from one of the corner places, and finished off with beignets at the Du Monde before making it another early night.
