JAZZ FEST 1999
SUNDAY NIGHT

We finally dragged our asses out of the comfy grass and went over to Liuzza's to check in and say goodbye to any Kats who were leaving the next day. Then we hopped in the car and drove over to a bar called The Canal Bus Stop. One of the Kats we hadn't met yet - Cindy Chen, was scheduled to perform that night with Timothea. Being a musician himself, Joe feels very strongly about supporting fellow musicians, and so we had corresponded by email with Cindy and told her we would come out to hear her play. When we arrived at 8:30, the place was deserted, no sign of the band at all, even though they were scheduled to start at 9pm. We realized we had once again forgotten how terrible New Orleans clubs are about published versus actual starting times. We sat and had a few cocktails and met Cindy when she arrived to set up her keyboard and gear. But after hanging out at the bar for 2 hours, we were still feeling grungy from being at fest all day, plus were dead tired (and getting drunk from the cocktails), so we left at 10:30 before the band even started playing. We have to remember to plan for these hazy starting times next year. After all day in the hot sun, followed by drinks in the cool quiet bar, we were pooped. We went home and had a picnic on our hotel bed and fell asleep before midnight.
